World Series Day, June 6th 2009 The Ponytail League Championship game started off strong with a double play by MDC Wallcoverings in the first inning. As the bottom of the sixth inning progressed, Young Chefs Academy made a valiant effort to come back from a game long 5-1 deficit. With two on and the winning run at the plate, a line drive foul ball caught by the first baseman ended the game to put MDC Wallcoverings into first place with a final score of 5-3. MDC Wallcoverings is made up of Nicole Amen, Courtney Anetsberger, Tyler Bear, Hailey Koretz, Grace McDowell, Gillian Redstone, Julia Rothschild, Stephanie Salerno, Sofie Schwartz and Emma Vickery. The Minor League Championship game was a highly anticipated matchup of first place Elegance in Meats and second place Spun.com. Elegance in Meats came out strong scoring 5 runs in the first inning and striking out the first 3 Spun batters. Spun came back to within 1 run after a combination of solid hitting in the 2nd and 3rd brought in 4 runs and two innings of nearly perfect pitching by Lauren Smeds held the Elegance bats at bay. It remained a 1 run game until the strong Elegance hitting that had served them so well all season came to life in the 5th, clinching the 11-5 victory and Minor League Championship title for Elegance. Elegance is comprised of Kendall Barrett, Griffin Elfant, Jordan Fahey, Anna Hirshman, Dana Lenhoff, Shayna Lutz, Debbie Noh, Alexa Rosenson, Ilana Schreiber, Hanna Silverman, Kiley Sullivan and Suzanne Yost. The Major league Championship game pitted The Lock Up Self Storage against Paramount Staffing. Lock Up rallied with 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning to defeat Paramount Staffing in the Majors Championship game. Lock up jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before Paramount Staffing scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd behind Ilana Nitzkin's double that scored 3 runs. The team's traded runs in the 3rd and 4th innings before Paramount went ahead scoring 3 in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 8-7. Lock Up scored their 4 runs in the 6th inning behind the hitting of Nicole Heiam and Stephanie Katsnelson. Paramount Staffing threatened in the bottom of the 6th, but fell short at the end. Lynn Demma threw 2 scoreless innings for Lock Up while Rachel Becker did the same for Paramount Staffing. Lock Up team members include Lynn Demma, Sarah Gaertner, Katie Garibaldi, Becca Hartlieb, Nicole Heiam, Mary Heywood, Elise Kailin, Stefani Katsneson, Jamie Scholl, and Angela Williams. In the Consolation games HealthInsure.com beat Thometz & Uhland at the Ponytail level, Compass Electric defeated Sunset Foods at the Minor level and Mario’s Pizza won over Stratton Hill Farms. .
